Summer, 2010
I declared my candidacy for re-election to a third two-year term as Mayor of Morgan Hill back in February. Unlike 2006, we have opposition this year. I am working diligently to get ready for a vigorous campaign.
There is both good news and bad news that will shape the campaign. Starting with the bad (so we can end on a high note), the economic recession persists and has impacted all city services. While elected officials seek (and often campaign) to increase services, that is simply not possible. Our major sources of general fund revenue - property tax and sales tax - have declined significantly and will recover slower than the general economy. Strong leadership is needed to keep us on a sustainable financial track with reduced service levels being delivered as efficiently and effectively as possible. I will continue to provide that leadership.
Now the (very) good news. Morgan Hill is a fantastic community with an outstanding quality of life and we have accomplished so much in the past several years. Our recreation and community facilities thrive and add to our already great reputation. We are successfully transforming a great Downtown into an even more spectacular residential/commercial neighborhood. Our Redevelopment Agency (RDA) will allow us to continue many high priority projects such as the Tennant overpass widening and the completion of Butterfield Blvd. Our residents really like their community and support our direction. We have a community vision of where we want to be in ten years and are on a solid track for getting there. I am very proud of my contributions to this community and want to continue in my leadership position to advance us further.
I love Morgan Hill and seek to continue serving it well. I would very much value and appreciate your support.
Thanks,
